The uot file extension is a subset of the Uniform Office Format, also referred to as the Unified Office Format, which is an open standard developed in China for the creation of office documents. This means that the standard is made publicly available and it is not licensed in a restricted way. The Uniform Office Format includes word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation file types. The uot file extension is specifically intended for the creation of text files.
The group that created the format was established in January of 2002, and the original version was completed and released in December of 2005.
The easiest way to open uot files is to use the Open Office platform. Open Office is a freely available collection of programs, similar to Microsoft Office, that can be used to do word processing, to create spreadsheets, and to create presentations. It is available for free and it is open source, meaning that the code used to create the programs is freely available and done in public.
To get Open Office, do a google search for the program, download it, run the installation and follow the directions. Once it is installed, simply right click the uot file, choose “Open With” from the drop down menu, and choose Open Office to view the file.
