The uof file extension is short for Uniform Office Format, also referred to as the Unified Office Format. It is a format developed in China meant to serve as an open platform for “office” files. That is, it is meant to be used for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. The group that designed the format was conceived in January of 2002, and the first release was made in December of 2005. The group is “open” in that the meetings are “open-door,” decisions are made by vote, and the standard is available for free.
The easiest way to open uof files is by using Open Office. Open Office is a series of programs that are made available for free. They are open source as well, and they are used for the viewing and editing of text documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. While it is often referred to as OpenOffice, this term is trademarked by another business, and technically it is known as OpenOffice.org. In order to open uof files, do a google search for Open Office, and download and install the programs. Once you have finished following the installation wizard, right click on the uof file. From the drop down menu, select “Open With.” Choose Open Office from the list of selections.
